Dear Parents/Guardians of our "little dolphins",
Welcome back to the 2016/2017 school year! I know that this is going to be another year filled with success. I hope that everyone had a nice summer, and I am so happy that you are part of our school.
I hope that you will continue to partner with us in your child's education. Together we ca do great things for your children. There will be many opportunities for you to come and visit your child's classroom, meet with your child's teacher, and attend workshops to help you understand what your child is learning in school. Please try to attend as many as you can. We want you to know what is happening in our school so that you may be able to help your child at home.
Our first Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 3, 2016. This is a half-day of school for all students. All students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon on this day. There is yellow bus service. We will send home information about the JCC and Goodhue programs on this day. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from: 1:00-2:30pm and again from 5:30-8:00pm. You will receive a letter from your child's teacher about scheduling an appointment. Please be on the lookout for that letter.
Please make sure to check your child's folder daily. Also, if you haven't already done so. please give Ms. Santaliz your email address so that you may be part of our school-wide email system. Also, check our school website: www.ps65r.org often as Ms. Santaliz posts important information on this site. You can also access your child's class website at this address.
Also, please check your child's homework and ask them about their day. Please read with them and/or encourage them to read daily. Reading is critical to success. In addition, we send home our "Book of the Month" for you to read and discuss with your child. I look forward to reading the responses you both place in our "Family Reading Notebook" and Ms. Rodriguez publishes many of them in our "Monthly Newspaper". I hope you have had the opportunity to be part of this "Family Reading Program".
Lastly, we are still using yellow "WIN Slips" to inform you of what your child needs. "WIN" stand for: "What I Need". Check your child's folder and/or homework notebook. The teachers will place these slips in either/both. This will give you information on what to work on with yur child at home.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, the office, and/or our parent coordinator, Ms. Norma Santaliz.
I look forward to another year with you and your children!
Have a happy and safe October!
