A Letter From Our Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians of our "little dolphins",
"Happy New Year!" I hope that all of you have a year filled with much peace, love, happiness and good health!
This month we will host Parent/Guardian Workshops from 2:30-3:30pm on:
- Tuesday, January 10th for parents/guardians of students in all grades on the New York State ELA Test
- Tuesday, January 17th for parents/guardians of students in all grades on the New York State MATH Test
- Tuesday, January 24th for parents/guardians in grades PK and K on Kindergarten Literacy skills and strategies
- Tuesday, January 31st for parents/guardians of students in grades PK, K and grade 1 on 1st grade Literacy skills and strategies
Also, the week of January 23-27 is "LITERACY WEEK". Parents/Guardians in all grades will be invited into the classroom to view their children being given instruction in literacy. The schedule is forthcoming. You may always obtain valuable information about what your child is learning using the following New York State website: www.engageny.org. This website contains important information about the standards of each grade as well as information on the NYS tests and resources for parents/families.
I want to thank all of you for your patience as we work through the new policy with the Lexia Reading Logs. Lexia is a research-based Reading program with a proven record of increasing Reading achievement.
Many parents/guardians have inquired about our ongoing arts programs. Please know that Mr. I and Ms. Rizzo will switch their Wednesday classes as of February 1st so that students will receive both Musical Theatre and Visual Arts. We have just hired another part-time Music teacher who will work with students in grades 1, 4, & 5, and who will also take on the P.S. 65 Chorus. Bobaloo is coming to work with students in grades PK & K, and Ms. Patanio, our Technology teacher, who is also a Visual Arts teacher, infuses art into her curriculum daily. Finally, all of our teachers have been provided with instruction in the 4 art strands, and they infuse arts into their lessons every day. We will continue to provide arts programs after-school and will begin our Enrichment Program in February for students in grades 3, 4, & 5. This will eventually grow to include students in the lower grades.
I want to extend my deepest appreciation to all of you for your kind words, gestures and generosity to me and my staff during the holiday season! I hope that you know that we appreciate all that you did. I'm so excited about this New Year, and look forward with great enthusiasm to the work that lies ahead!
