A Letter From Our Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians of our "little dolphins",

We were so happy to see so many of you at the Parent/Teacher Conferences!  It is so important for us to work together and to communicate often in order to provide our students with the highest level of education possible!

This year we are continuing to us "WIN" (What I Need) slips to inform you of the area(s) in which your child needs additional assistance.  Please make sure to check your child's notebook for these so that you will be informed of your child's progress at school.  We included the list of upcoming "Parent/Guardian Workshops" in your child's report card folder.  We hope that you will be able to join us for these very important workshops.  You will be given very important information on what your child is learning in school and you will also be invited to come in and see your child learning in school.

We have begun our "After-School Enrichment Programs" this year.  We have students in grades 3, 4, & 5 participating in the "Compass Explore Music Program" with the Staten Island Philharmonic.  This program was given to our school, and the students are learning to play a musical instrument and read/write music.  If you child is interested in participating in this program, please let me know.

We also have the Illuminart "Hip-Hop" program which includes students in grades 2 - 5.  The cost of this is $50 and the students are provided with 10 sessions of "Hip Hop" lessons, which will culminate in a performance.

Finally, our "Bricks 4 Kidz" program is up and running.  Students in all grades were invited to participate.  The cost is $120. per child for an 8-week program.

Our  Technology/Literacy Cluster teacher, Ms. Victoria Patanio, has also begun working with Duplos and Legos with our students.  So many of you spoke to me about how much your child is learning in that program and shared your delight in this new program at our school.  I thank Ms. Patanio for her enthusiasm on pioneering this in our school.

We were also able to do Duplo classes with both Kindergarten classes and with Ms. Schreier's Science classes.  We will continue to integrate STEM into all of our classrooms.

The school will be closed on the following dates in November: Tuesday, November 8th - Election Day; Friday, November 11th Veteran's Day; Thursday and Friday, November 24th and November 25th - Thanksgiving recess

I wish everyone a very "Happy Thanksgiving".

Respectfully,
Sophie Scamardella

Reminder:
Please label all of your child's belongings.  Please place their full name in their clothing, their backpacks, lunchboxes, boxes, etc.  We find so many lost items and we do not know to whom they belong.  Thank you for being part of our very amazing school!
